THE La Salle Green Archers yesterday nipped the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 70-69 in overtime at the start of the second round of eliminations in the 76th UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Veteran guard Almond Vosotros canned the game-winning jumper with 1.8 seconds remaining that lifted the Archers to their fourth win in eight games while sending the Falcons to their second straight loss and their fifth in eight outings.
The savvy-laden Vosotros picked up a miss by LA Revilla and put a shot up that bounced on the rim four times before eventually trickling in. Adamson had a chance to win the game but a bad inbound pass botched the play that resulted in Jericho Cruz missing wildly on his desperation attempt.
Vosotros also added nine rebounds while Arnold Van Opstal chipped in 13 markers.
Meanwhile in the second game, the National University Bulldogs handed the Far Eastern University Tamaraws their first loss of the season with a 59-58 squeaker.
Two-time league MVP Bobby Ray Parks hit two pressure-packed free throws with nine seconds remaining that gave the Bulldogs the lead for good. FEU’s Mike Tolomia muffed a jumper as time expired to give NU their fifth win in eight games. FEU dropped to 7-1.
Gelo Alolino led the team with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals while Emmanuel Mbe had a double-double of 10 points and 11 boards.
FEU got 20 from one-time MVP RR Garcia but suffered greatly from the poor showing of current MVP pace-setter Terrence Romeo who finished with just eight on 3-of-16 shooting from the field.
