MANILA, Philippines—Authorities are looking into the motive behind the attack against a truck helper who was shot dead in Pasig City before dawn Wednesday, police said.
Police Officer 3 Rusthom Valdez, Pasig City police investigator identified the victim as Jowey Bartolay, 23, a resident of 6712 Silver Street, Centennial I-A Nagpayong, Barangay (village) Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City.
Valdez said Bartolay was sleeping somewhere on Mulawin Extension in Pinagbuhatan when he was shot several times by a still unidentified suspect around 3 a.m.
Witness Raffy Esguerra was quoted as saying that the suspect just suddenly arrived and opened fire at the victim, causing his instantaneous death.
The suspect immediately fled after the incident.
Scene of the crime investigators said eight spent shells and two slugs from a .45-caliber were recovered from the crime scene.
Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the attack, Valdez said.
