Ecija couple killed in fire

SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ, Philippines – A couple was killed when a fire razed their house in Barangay (village) Poblacion South here early Tuesday.

Police said Marcos Urbano and his wife, Imelda, both 58, were trapped in their bedroom during the 30-minute fire that started at 1:30 a.m.

Senior Police Officer 1 Efren Cara, investigator on duty at the Muñoz police station, said the victims’ neighbors in Teachers’ Village  told police that they were awakened by the sound of breaking glass windows but heard no one asking for help.

The neighbors said the couple could have been sound asleep when the fire gobbled up their wooden house.
