Mandaue Business Month gets P6M aid

THE CEBU provincial and the Mandaue City governments committed P6 million to support this year’s Mandaue Business Month celebration.

The celebration kicked off last Thursday with a parade and the official launching of the adoption of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) of the Pajara Park, the park under the Mandaue-side of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.

The MCCI officials said they plan to develop the park and turn it into a tourism destination.

Marlene Vedia, MCCI executive director, said the Cebu provincial government and the Mandaue City government committed P3 million each in sponsorships for this year’s celebration which will be used for their activities this month until September.

“One of the major events we have for this year is the MCCI Business Summit that will happen this Friday featuring eight well-known speakers,” said Vedia.

Vedia said they have already received confirmations from many businessmen affirming their attendance in the event and they are very optimistic that the participants will enjoy and learn from the talks.

“We have asked the speakers to focus on topics that are relevant to the businessmen now and for the years to come,” said MCCI Business Summit chairman Stanley Go.

This year’s celebration carries the theme “Engaging Change: Be Fit. Be Connected. Be Ahead” which Vedia said is very relevant to what the business community needs now.

WINNERS

Another major event is the third year of the Search for Winners or Women In Need Now Entrepreneurs and Role Models which has already started with selection of the top 20 candidates.

“Awarding is on August 20 at the Cebu International Convention Center. This year, we are also awarding the corresponding Barangays of the winners because that way, we think we can encourage them to really help women start businesses and become role models in their community,” said Search for Winners chairperson Carmel de Pio Salvador.

Vedia said there are more small group business forums set for September but they are still finalizing the dates.
