Did you know: Birth anniversary of Jacinto Zamora

Today, Aug. 14, is the 178th birth anniversary of Jacinto Zamora, known as one of the Gomburza priests. The secular priest and martyr born in Pandacan, Manila, in 1835 worked for the secularization of the Filipino clergy. He was executed on Feb. 17, 1872, together with Mariano Gomez and Jose Burgos for allegedly instigating the Cavite Mutiny that year. Elementary schools in Manila and Pasay have been named in his honor.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
