2 charged with killing columnists
The police filed charges Monday against two men accused of killing two tabloid columnists in Quezon City last month.
Clemente Bersoza, 48, and Roel Manaog, 33, both residents of Barangay (village) Commonwealth, were charged with two counts of murder in the City Prosecutor’s Office.
Case investigator SPO1 Pascual Fabreag said the suspects were tagged by witnesses in the killing of Richard Kho, 59, and Bonifacio Loreto, 47, columnists of Aksyon Ngayon, a tabloid that printed just one issue before it shut down in March.
The motive for the shooting, however, was still under investigation, he added.
The victims were talking in front of Loreto’s store in Barangay Commonwealth shortly before midnight on July 30 when two men walked up to them and shot them.
Fabreag said the witnesses managed to identify the suspects by going through a police file of people with criminal records.
