MAN DIES, 2 HURT IN SIBONGA SHOOTING

A MAN was killed while two others were wounded when unidentified gunmen fired shots at a group of men playing a coin toss game locally known as hantak in barangay Poblacion, Sibonga town, northern Cebu.

Mark Gomez, 30, suffered gunshot wounds in the head. Wounded were Romuel Mueblas and Acxell Aguilar.

The three were rushed to a hospital in the town where Gomez was declared dead.

Police said the victims were playing hantak Saturday dawn when unidentified men whose faces were covered with cloths arrived and opened fire.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack.

Police are checking reports that Gomez figured in an argument with a man a few days before the attack.

DEAD MAN IN MANDAUE

THE body of a 27-year-old man was found floating near a shipyard in barangay Opao, Mandaue City .

The fatality identified as Titi Perosa, a resident of barangay Looc, Mandaue, bore a gunshot wound in the head.

Police said Cal Entrampas, security guard of MB Shipyard, found the body around 6 a.m. yesterday.

The fatality was identified by his sister Ruping Perosa, said PO2 Pasaylo Bandolon.

After the discovery of the body, Bandolon said they contacted Perosa, who had reported her brother’s disappearance to the Opao Police Station last Saturday.

Police said it was possible that Perosa was shot when he entered the shipyard.

The Investigative and Detective Management Branch of the Mandaue City Police Office will conduct further investigation to identify the assailant and determine the motive of the shooting.  /CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA

CAR STOLEN FROM POSH SUBDIVISION

UNIDENTIFIED thieves ransacked the house of a Korean national in Maria Luisa, a posh subdivision in barangay Banilad, Cebu City.

Police said the thieves entered the house of Kim Jung Eun through a glass window Saturday night. Aside from taking two pairs of rubber shoes, the thieves also took the key of a Kia Sorento (plate number LNA-355) then drove off with the car.

POLISH TOURIST ROBBED IN SIBONGA

A 19-YEAR-OLD Polish tourist and his Filipino companion were robbed at gunpoint in barangay Kalubihan, Barili town, southwestern Cebu.

Patryk Klaudiusz Malek, a resident of Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, and Jose Castillo were waiting for a passenger bus in sitio Lapnis when two motorcycle-riding robbers waylaid them Saturday afternoon.

The two victims are temporarily staying in barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Police said valuables amounting to P79,800 were taken in the robbery.

Stolen items included a laptop, a wristwatch, a cellphone and P2,000 cash.  /CORRESPONDENT CHRISTINE EMILY L. PANTALEON
