MANILA, Philippines – The Light and Metro Rail Transit systems will continue operations despite heavy rains brought by typhoon “Labuyo” (international name: Utor), a spokesman of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said on Monday.
LRTA spokesperson Atty. Hernando Cabrera, in his official Twitter account (@attycabs), assured the train riders that the LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3 will remain operational.
The average daily passengers of the LRT lines stand at 500,000 while the MRT accommodates an estimated 400,000 commuters.
The LRT-1 connects the Roosevelt station in Quezon City to Baclaran in Parañaque City, while LRT-2 travels from Claro M. Recto in Manila to Santolan in the Marikina-Pasig boundary. MRT-3 travels from Taft Avenue in Pasay City to North Avenue in Quezon City.
As of 7 a.m. Monday, maximum sustained winds of “Labuyo” were at 165 kilometers per hour with gustiness of 200 kilometer per hour, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
The typhoon, Pagasa said, is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Tuesday morning.
