2 fires hit Cebu City in 2 hours

Two fires destroyed P120,000 worth of property in Cebu City within two hours  yesterday morning.

No one was reported injured.

Firefighters received an alarm from the house of Bienvenido Urbiztondo along Omega Street, barangay Apas, around 9:38 a.m.

FO2 Rudither Comeros  of the Cebu City Fire Department said neighbors and barangay fire volunteers helped put out the fire, which was contained at 9:56 a.m.

The fire damaged the room of Urbiztondo, a retiree who left the city for Surigao in Mindanao last week.

Comeros said Urbiztondo left with his exhaust fan plugged.

He  said overheating may have caused the fire. Damage was estimated at P50,000.

At 10:50 a.m., firefighters responded to another alarm in the house of Vilma Marquez in Nivel Hills, barangay Busay.

Comeros said Marquez’s son Zaldy, in his 30s, claimed  he was awakened by smoke coming from the ground floor of their house.

Zaldy said the flames were already big when he came out of his room so he hurriedly left the house empty-handed.

Comeros said electrical misuse may have caused the fire as the electrical appliances were at the ground floor.

Comeros said the fire, which was put out at 11:07 a.m.,  razed the house of Marquez. Damage was pegged at  P70,000.
