Cebu braces for more events

After the highly-successful Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines last Sunday, Cebu will again host a series of exciting sports events lined up for the rest of August.

First up is the much-awaited 18th Milo Little Olympics Regional Finals on August 16, 17, 18, 24 and 25 at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC). Cebu will also host the National Finals on October.

Then on August 25, the eighth edition of the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) University Run will once again challenge runners to conquer its ‘Three Bridge Challenge’ in the 25-kilometer category. It is held in line with the CDU’s intramural meet.

The 25k route will pass through the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, the old Mactan Bridge which connects Cebu and Mactan Island, and the Cansaga Bridge in Liloan town. The run will also feature 13k, 6k and 3k races.

The first ever Alphans Run will also kick off on the same date starting at the Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu. The running event will feature 3k, 6k, 12k and 21k distances. It is a fund-raising event for the benefit of underprivileged college students who are members or relatives of Alpha Sigma Phi members.

Meanwhile, a mountain bike race dubbed ‘Enduro Ta Bai: Enduro Pilipinas Series Fourth Leg’ will also be held on the 25th in barangay Taptap, this city.

The event will cover 32 kilometers of Cebu City’s mountain barangays with a registration fee of P450 inclusive of race bib, finishers medal, certificate and refreshments.

To enlist, one can visit Papis Ride, Grantrail Cycles and Cebu Mountain Bike Adventure. Only 50 racers will be accepted.

August will also witness an uphill run and a mountain climbing event exclusive for women.

The mountain climbing event is slated on Aug. 23 at the Osmeña Peak in Dalaguete. It is organized by the Mountaineering Federation of the Phils. (MFPI-Inc.), Cebu Outdoor Adventure Team (COAT-Inc.), Cebu Mountaineering Society (CeMS), University of San Carlos Mountaineers (USC-M) and KAMP-Cebu.
