The former nine-time champions University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars face off for the lead in the standings in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Green Lancers started the new season right, beating the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 81-62, during the league’s opening last Saturday.

They look to build on that win today and gain some momentum heading to their much-anticipated showdown with bitter rivals Southwestern University (SWU) next weekend.

Standing in their way are the Jaguars, a team that also debuted in style after defeating the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT–U) Wildcats, 79-66, last Tuesday.

Today’s game presents an interesting match-up between the guards of both squads as UV’s preeminent court general, Partner’s Cup MVP John Abad, takes on USJ-R’s latest star, rookie sensation Rendell Senining.
