POLICE arrested a man allegedly involved in several robberies in the cities of Mandaue and Cebu.
Rene Codilla and his companion, a certain Albert, were about to strike when police spotted them in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City, said Senior Insp. Ramil Morpos, chief of the Casuntingan Police Station.
Morpos said he and his men rushed to A. S. Fortuna Street after they received a report that two armed men were spotted in the area past 1 p.m. Tuesday.
When they arrived in the area, Morpos said the two men tried to flee on a motorcycle driven by Albert.
As they were about to drive off, Codilla drew something from his waist and threw it on the ground, police said.
Morpos said they later found out that what was thrown to the ground was a .38 caliber revolver.
Police chased the two men who were headed for barangay Apas.
Morpos said tanods in Apas helped them locate Codilla.
A charge of illegal possession of firearm was filed against Codilla, police said.
Morpos said that in their follow-up investigation, Codilla was implicated in several robberies in Mandaue and other places in Cebu City.
Morpos said robbery victims are advised to visit the police station for a positive identification of Codilla./CORRESPONDENT Fe Marie D. Dumaboc
