‘Idol’ to provide needed exposure for rural boxers

As the ‘Pinoy Pride’ boxing series goes international in the coming months, ALA Promotions hopes to sustain high caliber local boxing promotions by creating “IDOL” a new boxing series featuring the young guns of Philippine boxing.

ALA Promotions launched the newest reality TV series show yesterday which aims not just to sustain high caliber fight cards but also to give opportunity to talented rural boxers to flaunt their skills in the big city.

IDOL is a multi-million project of ALA Boxing Promotions that will serve as the stepping stone of the country’s rising pugs before they will be exposed to bigger stages like the popular ‘Pinoy Pride’ series.

IDOL’s first fight card will be on Aug. 24 in Escalante City, Negros Occidental featuring two of ALA Boxing Gym’s undefeated young warriors Melvin Gumban (14-0, 6KOs) and Mark Vincent Bernaldez (10-0, 6KOs).

“Young prospects who will be fighting in IDOL will become instant hometown heros,” said ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer during yesterday’s launching at the Alpa Suites Hotel in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

This boxing event will serve as a temporary replacement for the Pinoy Pride Series which will go international in the coming months.

“We want to sustain the quality boxing events here in the country and showcase rising prospects through IDOL while Pinoy Pride goes international,” said Aldeguer who was joined by ALA Promotions Vice President Dennis Cañete.

LIVE OVER STUDIO 23

ALA Promotions bought an airtime from ABS-CBN’s Studio 23 for the airing of “IDOL” to let boxing fans follow the journey of the featured fighters.

“Gone are the days of hearing only the names of the best prospects. Now you can actually watch them fight,” disclosed Aldeguer. “IDOL will change the Philippine boxing landscape because the show will gauge the future of boxing in the country.”

The event will have six fight cards to be aired live from 12 noon to 2 p.m. over Studio 23 on Aug. 24 with the schedule of the other cards to be announced later.

Also set to fight on “IDOL” are some of ALA Boxing Gym’s fast rising prospects like Prince Albert Pagara, Ralph Lulu, Jimmy Paypa, Elmo Traya, Mark Acub and Jessel Magsayo.

Meanwhile, ALA Promotions and Cobra Energy Drink recently renewed their contract to extend the province-wide “Cobra Tunay Na Lakas” series.
