Japanese foundation donates P50M to Cebu City public library

THE Toyoflex Cebu Foundation donated P50 million to the Cebu City government for the upliftment of the city’s public library on Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City.

This was announced by Mayor Michael Rama in a press conference last Aug. 7 after his one-week trip to Fukuoka, Japan to observe the operation of a retirement facility by a private firm there and determine the viability of operating a similar facility at the South Road Properties.

The donation will be used for the foundation of the building, purchase of computers, books and other equipment.

Toyoflex Cebu Foundation owner Takashi Tanaka sent Mayor Rama a letter expressing his delight as the mayor accepted his P50 million donation.

Tanaka was awarded during the city’s Charter Day celebration for his generosity by also donating various science equipment to public schools in Cebu City.

Tanaka also provided scholarship programs and Japanese lessons to the nursing students of Cebu City Medical Center.
