MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) will gradually decrease its personnel in the coming months.

Agrarian Reform Secretary Virgilio delos Reyes told members of the House committee on appropriations they would be employing less workers as part of its rationalization plan.

Delos Reyes justified the move by explaining that DAR only had little left to distribute under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

Anakpawis Representative Fernando Hicap however called the said rationalization plan a “mass lay-off” and said that it would affect DAR’s 7,000 workers.
