Cebu cops to get cash gifts

CEBU Governor Hilario Davide III yesterday announced the giving of financial assistance to at least 40 policemen from various police stations for their successful campaign against illegal drugs.
Davide, who chairs the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Commission (CPADAC), said policemen from the towns of Liloan, Dalaguete and Consolacion and some police officers from the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will receive P3,000 each.
Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, chief of the CPPO, will get P10,000.
Provincial Board (PB) member Carmen Remedios Durano-Meca, who heads the province’s Dangerous Drugs Abuse Prevention committee, filed a resolution commending the officers for the “successful buy-bust operations” in their respective jurisdictions.
The PB also approved Meca’s resolution on the disbursement of the province’s funds for the awards and incentives for all qualified law enforcement personnel and agencies.”
The announcement of the giving of the cash incentives coincided with the burning of seized marijuana plants worth P3 million at the CPPO grounds.
Comendador said the 15,000 stalks of marijuana were seized from the towns of Balamban and Badian, and Danao City from January to July.
Chief Supt. Danilo Constantino, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), said the crackdown on marijuana plantation will continue./REPORTER JOY CHERRY S. QUITO AND CORRESPONDENTS CHITO O. ARAGON AND PETER L. ROMANILLOS
