Water district seeks input on Buhisan dam early warning system
THE Metro Cebu Water District (MCWD) wanted to ask Cebu City officials on what kind of early warning system they want installed at the Buhisan dam.
MCWD information officer Charmaine Rodriguez said the agency’s manager Armando Paredes wants an audience with Cebu City officials like Vice Mayor Edgar Labella who voiced concern over reports of overflowing water at the dam.
Cebu City mayor Michael Rama also voiced concerns on an early warning system especially during brownouts. He said a traditional warning system like bamboo poles is better.
Rama is confident that the Buhisan dam has a stable foundation because it was built by American engineers.
“It is not made to break I hope, but it is made to be there for a lifetime,” he said.
Rama said he understands that an abundant water supply at the dam cannot be avoided due to heavy rains.
