Torre optimistic of winning vacant title

FORMER Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) champion and Pacific Xtreme Challenge (PXC) veteran Victor “Gladiator” Torre is optimistic he can win the vacant Ground and Pound (GPC) flyweight title against undefeated Cebuano James “Spider” Serenio in the Ground and Pound 7: Resolution on Aug. 31 at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Bacolod City-native Torre, who has a record of six wins and two losses, said winning the GPC belt is important for him since this will help resurrect his career after suffering two consecutive defeats in the PXC against Cebuano Eugene Toquero and Team Lakay member Jerome Wanawan.
“I think I am hungrier to get that title,” said Torre. “I am known to be a ground specialist but this time I will showcase my skills in kickboxing.”
Torre will be facing a young Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) prospect in Serenio, who is undefeated in his six MMA fights including a 45-second destruction of Jafet “Smiling” Flores in the main event of the “Who Are You?: Unleash D’ Unstoppable”  in July 2012 at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Complex. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G.
