Drugs eyed as man kills father’s lover

A young man believed to be high on drugs stabbed dead the live-in partner of his father inside their house in Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said they were still trying to determine why Mark June Cuevas killed Arlene Serrano, 35. Witnesses, however, told the police that he was a drug user.

Cuevas, whom the police described as being in his early 20s, immediately fled after the attack which took place inside their house on Sampaguita Street in Barangay Central.

Serrano, on the other hand, was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors at East Avenue Medical Center due to multiple stab wounds.

SPO1 Cristituto Zaldarriaga of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said that just before she was attacked, Serrano was talking to her friends inside their house.

According to the case investigator, Cuevas came home after a few minutes and when he saw Serrano, he grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked her to the surprise of her guests who fled for fear that he would also go after them.

At the time of the attack, Cuevas’ father, Pablo, was asleep.
