Cops eye job angle in bank exec’s slay

Police are looking into the possibility that the death of a high-ranking bank official in Valenzuela City Friday could have been work-related. Senior Police Officer 3 Jess Sagisi told the Inquirer that Pablo “Bong” Francisco Jr., 39, could have stepped on someone else’s toes when he assumed the post of assistant manager of the information technology department of a bank in Makati City. “That is probably why he was shot. We are considering that angle. According to the people we talked to, he was promoted only shortly before he died,” Sagisi said. The senior investigator said, however, that this did not mean that they were automatically dismissing other possible angles. In the meantime, Sagisi said police would show Francisco’s work mates a facial composite sketch of the suspect generated based on descriptions provided by witnesses. “Hopefully, somebody can identify him, and then we can move forward from there,” he said. Francisco was shot dead in front of his house on Paso de Blas at 7:10 a.m. The suspect passed by the victim’s house a day before he died, saying he had a letter to deliver personally to the bank official. A house help told the suspect to return the next day since Francisco had already left for work. Francisco is survived by his wife, Cristela, and children Ethan, 5, and Christian, 3. He will be buried Tuesday at Tierra Santa Memorial Park in Valenzuela City after the 2 p.m. Mass.—Kristine Felisse Mangunay

Metro PIO officers’ induction on Oct. 13

The new set of officers of the Association of Information Officers in Metro Manila (AIMM) will be inducted on October 13, 6 p.m., at Kapitan Moy in Marikina City, said AIMM president and chief public information officer of Marikina Paul Edward P. Sison. AIMM’s advocacy is to espouse developmental communication through regular media forums and a compendium of best practices to be launched in December, as well as the holding of the AIMM Journalism Awards in June 2012. The AIMM compendium will showcase the best practices of each member local government unit or national agency. The AIMM hopes that by documenting case studies, many others can learn from their successes. Sison said he is asking the help of Metro editors of national newspapers, and the University of the Philippines, so the AIMM Journalism Awards will be an effective tool in inspiring reporters, photographers and columnists to feature more “good news” than sensational newsstories. “Many good things are happening in the cities and in the agencies nationwide, but these are not reported often enough in the media,” Sison said. New members can call Susan de Leon of PIA, who is the treasurer of AIMM, at tel. no. 929-4521 or 0928-5204310; or e-mail [email protected].
