7 hurt as jeep falls into ravine in Cavite

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines—Seven people, among them the driver of a passenger jeep, were injured when the vehicle  plunged into a ravine in Carmona, Cavite on Wednesday morning.

Citing the victims’ accounts, Chief Inspector Armandi Dimabuyo, Carmona police chief, said the jeep tried to overtake another vehicle when it swerved to the left side of the road and fell into a 20- to 25-foot-deep ravine in Barangay  Bancal around 6:45 a.m.

The jeep was carrying six passengers and was bound for General Mariano Alvarez, also in Cavite.

Rescuers pulled the passengers out of the ravine and brought them to a  hospital in Carmona. The driver, identified as Jerico Roxas, sustained the most bruises and fractures among the victims and was transferred to the Philippine General Hospital in Manila.

In a phone interview, Dimabuyo said they were preparing charges of reckless imprudence against Roxas, who had yet to give a statement to the police.
