MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area off Palawan intensified into tropical depression “Kiko” Monday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.
Kiko, the tenth tropical cyclone this year was last observed 280 kilometers northwest of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan, or 320 km west of Coron, Palawan, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
The cyclone was moving north northwest at 15 kilometers per hour, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center.
Kiko is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday afternoon.
“Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and the whole of Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Visayas will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms,” Pagasa said.
“Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to southeast will prevail over the western section of Central and Southern Luzon and of Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough,” it said.
“Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest to southeast with slight to moderate seas,” it added.
