New school will make Newtown more attractive to investors

To attract more investors and to add another formula to their concept of “live-work-play-learn” to their township, Megaworld has partnered with an academic institution to run a school in the Mactan Newtown.

Noli D. Hernandez of Megaworld Inc., said they have tied up with Lasallian Schools Supervision Office (Lasso)  for a primary school that will occupy about 7,000 square meters of lot space in their 20-hectare property in Mactan.

Lasso is the implementing arm of the Lassalian Schools Supervision Association, Inc. (LASSAI).

“We have yet to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with them this month. We have yet to find out their requirements (for the school’s structure and design),” Hernandez said.

The school infrastructure will be built and owned by Megaworld but it will be operated by Lasso. It will offer primary school levels from Grades 1 to 7 and will have state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, green space, open and covered spaces and audiovisual rooms in a multi-level structure, Hernandez said.

The school is planned to be operational by school year 2016-2017.

township formula concept

“This is the first school that Megaworld owns, the first La Salle assisted school in Mactan which is a realization of Megaworld’s commitment to its township concept formula specifically in The Mactan Newtown, where parents can bring their children to the best school without leaving the community,” said Hernandez.

“Having a school with a reputable brand will not only help build credibility for the township, but more importantly, it will help improve the quality of education provided within the region,” said Hernandez./Reporter Aileen Garcia-Yap
