At least two incidents of spectators getting sideswiped by bikers were reported in yesterday’s biking leg of the Ironman triathlon in Cebu.
In Talisay City, police detained a 52-year-old man after he crossed the Cebu South Coastal Road causing a cyclist to take a spill.
Police said Samuel Manundo, a resident of barangay San Isidro in Talisay City, suddenly darted from the side of the road and got entangled with the bicycle of participant number 1615. The cyclist immediately stood up, mounted his bike and continued with the race.
The cyclist sustained minor scratches, police said.
Manundo was taken into custody and was released after about an hour when no complaint was filed against him.
In Lapu-Lapu City, a seven-year-old boy was likewise sideswiped by a cyclist after he crossed the road in Sitio Seabreeze which was part of the race course.
The boy, who was not identified, sustained bruises in the body, said Lapu-Lapu City health officer, Dr. Rodulfo Berame. /Correspondents Christine Emily L. Pantaleon and Norman V. Mendoza
