Cebu Students Multi-Sport Team shines
The Cebu students Multi-Sport Team composed of young Cebuano college triathletes topped the mixed relay event of the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines yesterday at the Shangri-la’s Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.
The team is composed of multi-titled junior cyclist Luis Miguel Maximo of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC), swimmer Loren Dale Echavez of the University of San Carlos (USC) and runner Rj Lao.
Echavez finished the swimming discipline in 42 minutes and 50 seconds while Maximo clocked 2:44.45 in the bike segment. Lao crossed the finish line in running in 1:48.46.
All in all, the team finished the relay event in five hours, three minutes and 29 seconds.
The Cebuano team edged the United States-based Team Esquire (05:20.37) and the Manila-based team Clear Sabak (05:25.49). Team Almond and Team Tri settled at fourth and fifth places, respectively. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
