Police arrested a 43-year-old man who allegedly tried to kill his 73-year-old mother in barangay Antipolo, Medellin town, northern Cebu.
Jose Arsolon was drunk during the incident.
The suspect’s mother Candelaria told police that her son was upset with her after she warned him not to cut bamboo trees which were growing on a lot owned by a neighbor.
Jose went on to cut the trees without the lot owner’s consent.
Jose later went home and allegedly tried to hack his mother.
Luckily, Candelaria managed to evade the blows and was able to escape.
Candelaria went home hours later but Jose was not around.
Jose was drunk when he arrived home past midnight.
Candelaria was sleeping on a bed when Jose confronted her.
“Naa na diay ka? Mapatay na gyud taka (You’re here already. I can finally kill you),” said SPO3 Eufrosino Aguisanda, recalling the suspect’s threat to his mother.
Police said Jose grabbed his mother and dragged her outside their house.
Candelaria was able to free herself while Jose was about to reach for a bolo.
The woman sought the help of barangay officials who then reported the incident to the police.
Jose denied attacking his mother. He said he couldn’t remember anything because he was drunk.
The suspect is detained at the Medellin police station pending the filing of charges against him.
