The Department of Agriculture (DA) will upgrade and modernize livestock trading in major animal production areas to provide farmers, raisers and traders more income and create more jobs.
In a statement, Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala said the DA was pursuing the initiative in partnership with the Japanese government and host municipalities and cities.
Alcala announced the project at the inauguration of the upgraded livestock auction market in Lemery, Batangas, on July 13.
The upgrading of the Lemery auction market is under a program called “Rehabilitation and Modernization of Livestock ‘Oksyon’ Market in the Philippines” funded by the DA, the Lemery municipal government and the Japanese government.
Alcala commended the Japanese government and Lemery local government officials for upgrading the facilities and adopting an automated transaction system at the Lemery auction market, which is considered to be the biggest in the country.
