3 Cebu schools win in broadcast contest
The Cebu Alliance of Mass Communications Students (CAMS), in cooperation with ABS-CBN regional network group held an on-the-spot broadcasting contest dubbed Campus Patrol last Aug. 19 at the Terraces, Ayala.
The University of San Jose Recoletos won the live broadcasting category with Jude Michael Torres, Rhea Mae Soco and Jolina Ylaya as the broadcasters.
Cebu Normal University won the best news coverage for investigative journalism category. They also won the reporter of the year award. The CNU’s one-minute documentary on cybersex was produced by the graduating batch of Communication Arts program.
Saint Theresa’s College, on the other hand, won CAMS got talent, a new segment of campus patrol.
Campus Patrol, now on its sixth year, is an annual contest organized by ABS-CBN aimed at enhancing live exposure of Mass Communication students to the broadcasting industry.
The on-the-spot broadcasting contest was the main highlight of the event. Students were given news items to report live before the audience.
For this year, ABS-CBN invited the regional network group head and veteran broadcast journalist Charie Villa to give a talk on broadcast journalism. She was also one of the judges for the contest.
The contestants also got the chance to see themselves on TV Patrol Central Visayas aired with the MassComm students.
The winners were also announced on-air. News Anchor Haide Acuña said in her live report, “They are the future of the media so we have to train them.”
Other schools who participated in the event were the University of the Philippines, Southwestern University, Cebu Technological University, Cebu Institute of Technology and University of the Visayas.
