Tribute run for triathlete who perished in Ironman

A running event dedicated to triathlete Ramon Igaña Jr. will be organized by his wife, Dr. Humility Igaña, this coming Aug. 11 dubbed R399: Live Your Dream starting at The Terraces of Ayala Center Cebu.

Igaña died of acute pulmonary embolism while competing in the Cobra IronMan 70.3 Philippines last year. The R339 in the event’s title is Igaña’s race number during last year’s Ironman.

Humility, with the help of veteran race director Joel Baring, will handle the race, which will award medals to winners in the 3-kilometer, 6k and 12k categories.

Humility said that she was encouraged by Baring to stage the event after he volunteered to handle the technical side of the running event for free as a sign of support to Igaña and her family.

“My husband was an aspiring runner and triathlete,” said Humility. “Running was his passion, and that’s our bonding time. He did his best before he died because he wanted to achieve something. So he deserves to have this kind of activity.”

The proceeds of this race will be used to sponsor a deserving less-fortunate triathlete.

Registration fee is P350 for the 12k and P250 for the 6k and 3k distances.

Registration can be done at the RUNNR Ayala Center Cebu, Clinica Melgar above KFC Fuente, A Runners Circle (ARC) Raintree Mall, The Brick J Center Mall, Coffee Cat and Bionic Builders in Magallanes and Mambaling.

Registration will end on Aug. 8. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
