Highway patrol officer shot dead in Surigao del Sur
MANILA, Philippines—A deputized member of the Philippine National Police’s Highway Patrol Group was gunned down Wednesday evening by still unidentified suspects in Surigao del Sur, police said Thursday.
Police Superintendent Martin Gamba, Caraga police spokesman, said Arturo de Castro Sarabia, 49, was shot by the motorcycling gunmen in Barangay (village) Liatimco, Lianga, Surigao del Sur around 7:30 p.m.
Sarabia sustained several gunshot wounds in different parts of his body and was brought to D.O. Plaza Memorial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival, Gamba said.
Five fired cartridge cases and three slugs of caliber .45 pistol were recovered from the crime scene, he said.
The case was placed for further investigation.
