CHARGES were filed yesterday against the man caught possessing counterfeit currency notes in barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City last Monday evening.
Richard Uy didn’t file a counter-affidavit when presented by police to the Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office.
Uy is accused of forging currency notes and illegal possession of false bank notes.
Both are violations of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines. Bail was set at P30,000 for forgery and P20,000 for illegal possession of fake bank notes.
Yesterday, a representative of the Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas said they will give cash rewards to those who can tip authorities on counterfeit manufacturers in the country.
Alex Nuñez, bank officer of the BSP’s Cash Department Investigation Division went to the office of Senior Supt. Mariano Natu-el Jr., Cebu City police chief, in connection with the confiscation of counterfeit bills produced by Uy worth nearly P2 million.
Taken from his possession were counterfeit bills, driver’s license, transcript of records, and school diplomas.
The operatives also confiscated a computer unit, a printer and a stamping machine.
In Nov. 20 last year, Uy was arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) for the same offense.
