Two men were arrested after they allegedly tried to sell a stolen shotgun to a policeman who acted as a poseur-buyer in barangay Babag 2, Lapu-Lapu City.
Police said there had been persistent reports that Jose Cyril Mindo, 34, and Felix Aparicio, 38, were involved in selling stolen shotguns.
Mindo was tagged as the one who stole the shotgun of a subdivision security guard in barangay Babag 2 last month, said Senior Insp. Rogelio Pineda Jr., chief of the intelligence division of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO).
Police said the security guard was hit in the head with a piece of wood. The culprit then took his shotgun when he lost his consciousness.
In the buy-bust operation last yesterday afternoon, a policeman posing as a customer transacted with the two suspects.
The two suspects tried to sell a shotgun for P10,000 but they eventually agreed to sell it for P7,000.
The policeman examined the shotgun and asked the suspects if they could have shotgun shells to go with the rifle
The two suspects handed over the shells to the policeman.
The policeman loaded a bullet in the shotgun.
The two suspects were surprised when the policeman pointed the loaded shotgun at them and declared that he was arresting them.
Other policemen arrived and helped in the arrest of the two suspects.
The suspects were detained at the LLCPO pending the filing of charges against them, said police.
Police said the shotgun’s serial number was erased and it didn’t have pertinent documents.
The shotgun was brought to the PNP Crime Laboratory for a macro-itching to determine its serial number.
