The daughters of double IronMan World Champion Chris “Macca” McCormack will lead this year’s Alaska IronKids Triathlon on Saturday at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.
McCormack of Australia will be competing for the first time in the fifth installment of the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines happening on Sunday also at the Shangri-La.
As a norm, the half IronMan race will once again be ushered in by the Alaska IronKids Triathlon, in which McCormack’s daughters will be among the top contenders.
Siena Lily McCormack will be seeing action in the 6 to 8 years old girls category while Tahlia Jane will be competing in the 9 to 10 girls category setting an exciting race against the Philippine’s Tara Borlain, the defending champion in the category.
All is set for the junior version of the half IronMan, except for a minor concern in the bike ride route of the race.
During the final coordination meeting among all stakeholders of the event held last Friday, Lapu-Lapu City Traffic Management System head Frank Brazil asked organizing Sunrise Events Inc. (SEI) if they can make a minor change on the bike ride route.
The SEI race team set the bike ride route along the Punta Engaño road. But it may not be easy to initiate a full closure of the route since the race falls on a Saturday and most offices will still be open on that day.
Brazil, along with SEI race team, will try to work out a minor change to the bike route that will not endanger the participants and at the same time not trouble the constituents of the affected barangays.
The registration booth for the Alaska IronKids located at the Marquee of Shangri-La Mactan will be open starting today.
Upon registration, participants will receive their race kits which will contain two sets of bib numbers for the running and biking, a swim cap, a sticker for the helmet and bike and a timing chip and chip strap which must be returned as soon as the participant crosses the finish line.
The race briefing will be tomorrow at the ballroom of Shangri-La.
