The stage is set for the anticipated battle royale between WBO Bantamweight champion Paulos ‘The Rock’ Ambunda and challenger Tomoki ‘El Mexicanito’ Kameda for tonight’s “Battle of the Undefeated: WBO World Bantamweight Championship” at the Grand Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

This after both boxers passed yesterday’s official weigh-in held at the Aegian Room of the Waterfront.

Ambunda weighed 117lbs while Kameda came in at 117.5lbs. This will be Ambunda’s first defense of the title he snatched from Thai Pungluang Sor Singyu last March in South Africa.

“I will bring my title back to Africa. I’m going to knock him out. Any mistake he makes, he is going down,” Ambunda repeatedly said after the weigh-in. He said his power and speed will overwhelm the younger Kameda.

Kameda for his part also predicted a knockout win to fulfill his father’s dream for him to join his world champion brothers Koki and Daiki Kameda.

In the supporting main event, Rex ‘Wakee’ Salud gym stalwart Marlon ‘Nightmare’ Tapales (22-2, 9KOs) will go up against Fredirex Rodriguez (11-2, 8KOs) of Bukidnon in a 10-round non title bout.

The other undercard boxers had a separate weigh-in yesterday afternoon at the GAB-Cebu office (see separate story).

WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel along with WBO supervisor Luis Perez will be at ringside to watch the bout.

The third man in the ring will be Raul Caiz Sr. while the three judges scoring the fight are American Tom Miller, Waleska Roldan and Puerto Rican Carlos Colon.

Tickets are available at P2,500 for VIP, P800 for the gold seats and P500 for ballroom seats. General admission is free.
