NU trounces UP

THE NATIONAL University Bulldogs put themselves back in contention for a slot in the Final Four as they mangled the hapless University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, 65-43, in the 74th UAAP basketball tournament yesterday at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Bulldogs took advantage of the listless play by the Maroons, who still seemed in shock in the wake of their 53-59 loss to the Far Eastern University Tamaraws last Thursday, a heartbreaking defeat especially since they led by 16 in the final period only to be overcome by a wave of baskets by reigning MVP RR Garcia.

NU improved their record to 4-6 (win-loss) while UP fell to 2-8.

At halftime, the Maroons managed a measly 13 points and were down by 14, 13-27. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
