Thursday, Aug. 1, is the 112th birth anniversary of Pancho Villa, the first Filipino world flyweight boxing champion. Born Francisco Guilledo in 1901, he changed his name when he was legally adopted by boxing manager Paquito Villa in 1918. He died at age 23 due to Ludwig’s angina, an infection of the throat cavity.
