Tutor, Missous emerge on top in University Run

Kenyan Abraham Missous and former local running queen Cristy Sevellino-Tutor beat the odds as they ruled the 21-kilometer race of the 6th University Run: Two Bridge Challenge of the Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.

Missous clocked 1 hour, 13 minutes and 1 second to top the men’s side while Tutor, taking advantage of the absence of Cebu’s reigning running queen Mary Joy Tabal, topped the distaff side with a time of 1:42:12.

Adonis Singson placed second to Missous with a time of 1:15:21 while Sherwin Managuil rounded off the top three, breasting the finish line in 1:15:56.

Alyssa Lagahit placed second to Tutor by clocking  1:42:12 followed by Merlita Arias-Dunkin, who claimed third place with a time of 1:42:13.

Meanwhile, Brende Codera and Emily Rosas topped the 13k open race.

Codera clocked 48:39 to win the men’s crown while Rosas logged a time of 1:05:30 to rule the distaff side.

Second to Codera was ultramarathoner Charlie Berberio with a time of 49:44 while William Plona timed 54:42 for third place.

Rochelle Tan placed second to Rosas with a time of 1:13:36 followed by Jackelyn Amores (01:16:03).

This was the first time that the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the old Mactan Bridge were used as route for the 21k run. Proceeds of the race will go to the Run for Sight Foundation.
