MANILA, Philippines – A new low-pressure area is being monitored by the state weather bureau as tropical storm “Jolina” made its exit from the Philippine area of responsibility Wednesday afternoon.
The LPA was last observed 130 kilometers northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Should it intensify, it will be the 11th cyclone for this year and will be locally named “Kiko.”
Storm “Jolina,” meanwhile, was last observed 530 kilometers west of Subic, Zambales, and has maintained its maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 80 kph.
Pagasa said in its afternoon bulletin that Mimaropa and the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Zambales and Bataan will experience cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Western Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the western section of Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be moderate to occasionally strong coming from the southwest to south with moderate to occasionally rough seas, Pagasa said.
