MANILA, Philippines – The five soldiers abducted by the New People’s Army last month were released Wednesday afternoon.
Spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Eastern Mindanao Command Captain Severino David said Mayor Rodrigo Duterte brought the five soldiers to Camp Panacan in Davao City at about 4 p.m.
The five are currently undergoing check-up at a hospital.
Duterte and the soldiers arrived at the camp via a helicopter, David said, adding that he could not say what prompted the release.
The soldiers from the Army’s 60th Infantry Battalion were abducted in Paquibato District last June 17.
The Army earlier identified the five soldiers as Corporal Emmanuel Quezon, Privates First Class Ronald Gura, Bernie Padilla, Donato Estandia and Private Marteniano Pasiagas Jr.
