FOR Visayas delegation head Ricky Ballesteros, this year’s 16th edition of the Milo Little Olympics has the most number of upsets.
According to Ballesteros, this is a good sign since it meant that the underdog teams are improving the quality of the competition in this annual inter-school, multi-sporting event.
“Unexpectedly, these teams surpassed our expectations, ” said Ballesteros.
One of the biggest upset is dethroning of defending football champion Abellana National School (ANS), who lost its title to the underdog Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) Greywolves.
Pajo National High School of Lapu-Lapu also came up with a stunner after dislodging perennial champion University of San jose Recoletos (USJ-R) in secondary girls volleyball.
Among the biggest upsets of this event is Catmon Central School’s sipa victory over defending champion Cebu City Central School (CCS) in the elementary side. What made its victory sweet was the fact that this was the first time that Catmon Central School was competing in the sipa tournament.
Although the favored teams still outnumbered the underdogs in titles hauled, the improvement in performance of these underdogs only means that the Visayas athletes are now very competitive. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
