THE Cebu City government wants to open at least four mountain roads to connect the city’s mountain barangay to other towns of the province.
According to Belinda Navascuez, secretary of Mayor Michael Rama said that the new roads will provide city residents an alternative route in their travels to nearby towns and cities. The mayor she added wants this realized in the next three years.
“Dili ra kaayo ni daku ug gasto kay ang uban ani naa na maya existing roads. Ato na lang i-connect sa provincial road,” she said.
(The budgetary requirement is not very big as most are existing roads. What we will do is connect these roads to provincial roads.)
City Hall’s Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) has proposed P21,934,440 in the next three years for the 12.5 kilometers road concreting project.
The DEPW plans to pave a 2.5-kilometer portion from barangay Mabini to Consolacion town and a one-kilometer segment from barangay Paril to Compostela town in 2014.
By 2015, another three kilometer segment of the Paril – Compostela road will be paved, along with the four-kilometer barangay Lusaran to Danao City road. By 2016, another four-kilometers from barangay Sin-sin to Lutopan will be paved.
Navascues also said that Mayor Rama will work to professionalize City Hall employees, plans to establish a satellite City Hall in barangay Taptap and further empower Barangay Councils.
