SM Foundation to plant .4M trees

THE SM Foundation Inc. will launch the project “Grow A Million Trees” in support of the government’s National Greening program.

Recently, the SM Foundation and the Department of Environment of Natural Resources (DENR) central office signed a memorandum of agreement to launch the project across SM Supermalls.

The SM Group and its affiliates pledged to plant 448,500 more trees with the remaining 29 percent of the 1-million target in five years to be outsourced from SM affiliates.

Pledges will come from SM Food Group, SM Land, SMDC, CDHI, MSDC and Ace Hardware.

More than 60,000 trees will be planted this year in DENR’s protected areas in Batangas, Benguet, Cebu, Davao, Cagayan De Oro and Bulacan.

In Cebu, the tree-planting activity will be conducted in barangay Campo 4 in Talisay City on Aug. 7. SM Foundation, together with SM City Cebu and affiliates and the DENR will plant 10,000 seedlings in a 20 hectare site.
