The still unidentified suspects died at around 11 p.m. along BMA Street in Barangay (village) Tatalon, with a third cohort able to escape.
Superintendent Norberto Babagay, Galas police station commander, said one of the slain men had a “BCJ (Batang City Jail)” tattoo on his right thigh. The other man sported a “Sputnik” tattoo in his right thigh.
Police recovered two .38 caliber revolvers and all the items they stole from their victims.
The three robbers allegedly posed as passengers aboard a jeepney (TWK-499) driven by Randy Ricapalaza. The jeepney was cruising along Quezon Avenue bound for Project 8.
During the ride, the men declared the heist and robbed the passengers at gunpoint.
Fortunately for the victims, patrolling policemen were in the area when they spotted the commotion aboard the jeepney.
The policemen saw the robbers get off at the corner of Banawe Avenue and walk towards BMA Street.
Babagay said his men walked up to the suspects and introduced themselves as lawmen, telling them to give themselves up.
The trio, however, fired at the policemen, who managed to shoot dead two of the robbers.
