MANILA, Philippines – World boxing champion and Sarangani Representative Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao on Tuesday clarified that his recent statement on possibly running for president was not indicative of any concrete plans.

The lawmaker was recently quoted by Agence France-Presse as saying that he was considering joining the presidential race after he quits boxing.

But a statement released by Pacquiao’s office said that the boxer’s “thoughts on the presidency are not indicative of any immediate or concrete plans but are merely aspirational.”

It said that Pacquiao was presently focused on his duties as a member of the House of Representatives.

The Sarangani lawmaker added that “serving in a higher elective post rests on the will of God and the call of the Filipino people.”
