Doctors who have examined Prince Dave Tabocolde are unable to explain how the 18-year-old acquired periodic paralysis, otherwise known as hypokalemia.
The disease is caused by a dip in potassium levels in the blood. Without immediate treatment or adequate vitamin supplements, a patient’s body would go numb.
“The condition of my son who was diagnosed in 2009 with what doctors described as a metabolic disorder is for life,” Prince’s mother, Gloria, told the Inquirer.
The 50-year-old laundry woman and her retired husband said that they were seeking the help of Inquirer readers because they were finding it hard to pay for their son’s vitamins and monthly checkups which cost them at least P24,000 every three months.
