MANILA, Philippines — A British national was arrested for allegedly selling almost five grams of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth P20,000 to undercover policemen in Quezon City, police said Monday.
Deepak Kumar, 45, was apprehended at a restaurant in Eastwood, Libis, last Friday afternoon, by operatives of the Quezon City Police District’s District Anti Illegal Drugs unit.
Chief Superintendent Richard Albano, the QCPD director, said drug peddling raps were filed over the weekend with the city prosecutors’ office.
Assistant city prosecutor Ben dela Cruz recommended the filing of the charges against the suspect with no bail for his provisional liberty.
Police learned that Kumar, a business process outsourcing consultant, was temporarily staying at Tivoli Place in Mandaluyong City.
Operatives accompanied by a tipster arranged a meeting with Kumar, with the intention to buy P20,000 of shabu.
As the transaction was completed, the British national yielded 4.93 grams, which tested positive for shabu.
The operatives then arrested Kumar, who was subjected to inquest proceedings on Sunday afternoon.
Albano said the British embassy has been informed of Kumar’s arrest.
