Some 200 street dwellers along Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City have benefited from the outreach program that was launched last July 20 at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
The street dwellers — composed of 65 males, 45 females and 90 children — received bath soaps, towels and used clothing. They were also bathed by the program volunteers.
The program, called Kontra Gutom Movement Operation Samaritan is spearheaded by the Cebu City government in partnership with the Gawad Kalinga, Cebu Archdiocese, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., street dwellers program consultant Edward Lacanilao, Caritas, Cebu City Health, Interactive Club of Abellana National School and Cebu City police stations 1, 2 and 5.
During the event, Lacanilao facilitated a discussion on the importance of cooperation between street dwellers and stakeholders.
Sr. Isa from Caritas also talked about values formation, while Mayor Michael Rama’s executive assistant Paul Hubahib explained the purpose of the program.
The feeding program is held daily until Wednesday, July 31 and it will even be extended once concerned stakeholders and individuals continue to sponsor the activity.
