Drive vs criminals on bikes pushed

Caloocan Mayor Enrico Echiverri has ordered the city police force to tighten their watch on men riding tandem on motorcycles because of the spate of crimes involving motorcycle riders in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. In a statement, the mayor called for a crime clampdown as he urged the police to be more vigilant in checking and screening motorcycle riders. Echiverri added that city police chief Senior Superintendent Jude Wilson Santos had assured him that the police would be watching all corners of the city. The mayor’s reminder followed the deaths of a former purok (neighbourhood) leader from Bagong Silang and an aide of Caloocan Vice Mayor Edgar Erice, who were both killed by motorcycle riders.—Niña Calleja
