Kapuso sweeps Red Shamans for NBAC crown
GMA-7 Kapuso retained its title after defeating the Cebu Daily News-The Freeman Red Shamans, 79-70, in game two of the best-of-three finals series of the Newsmen Basketball Association of Cebu (NBAC) yesterday at the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Gym.
The 2-0 finals sweep allowed GMA-7 to bag back-to-back NBAC crowns.
Unlike their first meeting at the Cebu Coliseum, GMA-7 Kapuso’s first five did not waste time in disposing the struggling Red Shamans, who actually tried to keep the game close early on.
Nante Quiñones and Gabriel Bonjoc unleashed their arsenal in the second half, erecting a 20-point lead entering the fourth period.
The Red Shamans tried to slice the lead behind the efforts of Jonas Panerio and Peter Romanillos but the Kapuso simply stayed on cruise control for the rest of the way.
Panerio scored 25 points for Cebu Daily News-The Freeman while Romanillos added 12 markers.
