MANILA, Philippines — Hello, chief?
Commanders of Philippine National Police (PNP) units in the regional, provincial, city and municipal levels should expect random calls from the country’s police chief in the wake of the bombing in Cagayan de Oro City that left six people dead and 48 others hurt.
In a directive, PNP Director General Alan Purisima ordered chiefs of police to beef up the security mantle in commercial areas, public places and other “soft targets” to prevent criminal groups from victimizing innocent civilians.
“It seems that we are again relaxing in our target-hardening efforts, more particularly in places of convergence (and) vital installations,” Purisima said in his order.
“In this regard, intensify your intelligence and target-hardening efforts. Be ready to brief me of your plans regarding this matter when I visit or call you,” he added.
The PNP chief also directed commanders of all PNP field units to deploy a specific police team, which will monitor the security situation in highly populated areas and other places of convergence.
“Maintain focus on the job you are (mandated) to do by dedicating specific personnel to do the job,” he reminded the police commanders.
